Navigating the world of disability grants can be overwhelming. With various options available and specific requirements to meet, many individuals may feel lost in the process. Families navigating financial hardship while caring for a child with a disability often have important questions about how our programs work. Below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive.
1.) Who does Bright Pathways serve?
Bright Pathways supports families caring for children with medically complex disabilities who are experiencing financial hardship and housing instability. The following represents examples of medically complex disabilities, including but not limited to:
Cerebral palsy, Seizure disorders / epilepsy, Traumatic brain injury (TBI), Hydrocephalus (with or without shunt), Severe developmental delay, Spina bifida, Muscular dystrophy, Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), Congenital heart defects (post-surgical or unrepaired), Cardiomyopathy, Heart failure, Arrhythmias requiring monitoring,
Prematurity & Neonatal Complications, Extreme Prematurity with ongoing medical needs, Apnea of prematurity, Failure to thrive requiring skilled oversight, NICU-related chronic conditions, Neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) with continued medical needs,
Gastrointestinal & Feeding Disorders, G-tube or J-tube dependence, TPN dependence, Severe dysphagia with aspiration risk, GERD with complications, Short bowel syndrome,etc.
2.) What type of assistance do you provide?
We provide need-based rental assistance and economic hardship grants to help families remain safely housed during difficult times.
3.) Is there an eligibility requirement to apply?
Yes. To qualify for assistance, families are REQUIRED to actively receiving services from our Bright Pathways Grant-Authorized Home Care Provider Network. This ensures that grant support is aligned with documented medical or disability-related care needs. The following is a list of

4.) How much assistance can a family receive?
Eligible families may receive up to $2,000 monthly in housing assistance, depending on available funding, documented need, and individual circumstances.
5.) Is assistance paid directly to families?
In most cases, payments are made directly to landlords or mortgage providers to ensure housing stability.
6.) Do families need to have a lease or mortgage?
Yes. A valid lease or mortgage statement is required to verify housing responsibility.
7.) Does the applicant have to be the child’s parent?
No. The applicant does not have to be the child’s biological parent. Eligible applicants may include a legal guardian, grandparent, or primary caregiver, as long as they reside in the home and are financially responsible for the housing.
8.) Does the child need to have Medicaid to qualify?
Yes. The child must receive Medicaid or an approved medical waiver program in order to be eligible.
9.) Does the child need to already be receiving home care services?
No. Families can newly enroll into one of our Grant-Authorized Home Care Providers. The child must be actively receiving home care services or in the process of being staffed. Approved services include care provided by an RN, LPN, CNA, or authorized caregiver.
10.) How long does the application review process take?
Families are typically notified within 7–14 business days after submitting all required documentation.
11.) Does the landlord or property manager need to participate?
Yes. The landlord or property manager must be willing to accept third-party rental assistance payments and provide a current lease, rent ledger, or written verification of rent due
12.) What documentation is required to apply?
Applicants are typically asked to provide:
Proof of a child’s disability or medical need
Proof of home care or support services
A current lease or mortgage statement
Landlord or lender contact information
Government-issued identification
13.) Is Bright Pathways a government program?
No. Bright Pathways is a privately funded organization supported by donors and community partners.
